Thankfully our creative agency sees the value in vacations and taking a day off. Working on our wellness (being away from the office) has shown to improve our work habits. This allows everyone a chance to decompress, which usually creates happier and more productive employees. “Workin’ on our wellness” has become a running joke at the office if we go out for a sunrise surf session or leave early to get a massage. “Oh my bad, I was working on my wellness.” As long as your work gets done for the day, taking a short break for any reason is encouraged.
After a successful and very busy 2013, the 4 full time employees at DLMG went on a team building/ snowboarding trip to Sugar Mountain, NC. Our web guru, Julio Gonzalez, had never snowboarded before, so we gave him 8 hours worth of snowboard tips on our drive from Florida to Boone, NC. Julio is an accomplished skateboarder, but learning to snowboard for the first time is always a funny sight to see. He actually improved faster than we could have imagined. Towards the end of the trip, his hill bombing earned him a new nickname, “Rapido Gonzalez!”
Working from the road allowed the team to brainstorm in a new environment, and we actually came up with some new ideas for our clients in 2014. The snow was fresh and our minds were open as we carved some powder. Little things like helping your buddy put on his gloves or laughing at him after he falls were all beneficial in creating a fun work environment. We would highly recommend taking a “team building” trip to snowboard on Sugar Mountain. It’s within a day’s drive and not too expensive. Don’t forget to take your smart iPhone or GoPro to capture all of the good/bad/ugly during the trip. We left all the expensive camera gear at home, but click here to see some snippets of our journey…
* DLMG recommends working on your wellness daily, whether it be an outdoor meeting, drinking multiple glasses of water throughout the day, or just stretching next to your desk.
